It's Not Too Late for Therapy, by L.A. Long

IT’S NOT TOO LATE FOR THERAPY is the not-so-classic story of love the second time around. Charlotte Mason is a brilliant, generous woman who is scarred by years of childhood bullying and the betrayal of two men she once loved. For the last decade she's raised her daughter alone after the death of her philandering husband in a one-vehicle crash, which took not only his life, but that of his lover.

Despite the challenges, Charlotte believes she's found balance nurturing her daughter and pursuing a challenging, and sometimes heart-wrenching, career as a victims' advocate, never acknowledging that she, too, is a victim.

All that changes when she runs into Gregg Wyte, her first love, on a homecoming/visitation weekend to Albion College with her daughter. Gregg is as surprised to see Charlotte as she is to see him, but while she’s dismayed, he's delighted. Gregg is determined to prove he's not the selfish, indiscreet bastard he was in college. But Charlotte's been hurt so many times by cruel words and deeds she's doing her best to prove she's no one's doormat. Then, just when Gregg seems to be making inroads to her heart, a secret from her husband’s past comes to light. As if that's not enough, Gregg's been hiding his own secret and when Charlotte finds out, it threatens to shatter their world.

Wonderful story. I was captivated....pulled in....and happy to have read it
By readerland
I jumped around when I first opened this book, sure I wouldn't like it. I normally don't read about older couples and I HATE long separations. Then I jumped, skimmed, was curious and then... WTF? I had to go back and start from the beginning because I HAD to know how this H redeemed himself.

My initial reaction to h wasn't great. She was a little bit of a B, I thought. Man, she's rude, sarcastic. Without knowing the details, I felt for H and wondered why the heck he was asking her out again for a 2nd and 3rd date.

THEN come the details. Wow. H caused h so much pain and heartache it's no wonder she's protecting herself. He was awful to her. Such a jerk. Now, I don't like him.

OK, so he wins her...and me...over. Other characters are brought in, the closeness between them grows. h's dead husband still affecting her life with what he leaves behind, and h pulls through. H is right by her side.

Then like a movie, where you know it can't be cut and dried just yet cause you still have more to go in the story, and you wonder what's next? *sigh* H betrays h again. BIG time. I wasn't happy. Was this not going to end in an HEA? This is a romance, right? I had to double check to be sure.

Heart-wrenching for me and I admit I would have liked the H to have to grovel just a LITTLE bit more...but I'm so happy and believe in their HEA and am glad they came together again.

(BTW, I know what you're thinking happened, but that's not it.)

Thank you for the great read! So worth it.

This is a hard one to rate because of Amazon's rating system. I really wish 1/2 stars were available. Having said that, this was a good book! It definitely held my attention and I couldn't put it down.
I really thought I was going to hate the hero for how he treated the heroine in the past, but he grew on me. I loved the heroine; she most certainly wasn't a pushover like she had been in the past, and I loved her stance on forgiveness. She didn't believe in forgiving or forgetting; more learning from her mistakes and moving on. Not to say that she never gave second chances or anything. I took it to mean that forgiveness is something that everyone tells you YOU have to do in order to feel better, when in fact it's all about making the person who wronged you feel better.
At around 90% when the final twist happens (which I had a sort-of idea that is what the situation was), I was disappointed with the resolution. I think how the author got the hero and heroine back together was a bit of a cop out and the hero most certainly should have grovelled more for me to be completely happy, but overall, the story was a compelling read. I may not have like how everything turned out (and I felt more of a showdown involving certain people needed to happen), but loved the plot, the writing and am happy to have found a new author to read :)

Rating: On the higher side of 3.5 stars

Slow, boring, predictable w stunted writing style
By Vee
Could not finish the book because of the stunted writing. "I told him to sit down" "He sat down" "I said ..." He answered ..." and it just went on and on at a slow boring pace. I felt nothing for the characters and had no desire to see what happens to them.
